You should always make sure that you are safe and seek for protection. If you or your children are in danger and need emergency help call 999 immediately and try to get to a safe place. Try and keep a telephone, money and any important documents to hand so that you can leave quickly if necessary.

You should report any injuries to the GP or hospital to make sure that you are ok. This can also be used as independent evidence in any later court proceedings. It may help you to keep a diary or record of incidents as it may be difficult to recall everything that happened at a later time.

You can report domestic violence to the police, health professionals, women’s aid, your solicitor, your housing group or the Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Whoever you report it to will be able to give you information and refer you to support services.

If you need emergency protection our solicitors can make an urgent application for a domestic violence injunction and can usually secure an order within 24 hours. Our specialist domestic abuse solicitors can arrange emergency appointments (usually the same day) for victims of domestic violence so you can ensure that you get help when you need it.

Greater Manchester Police offer specialist advice to people experiencing domestic violence or who have made the decision to leave: http://www.gmp.police.uk/content/section.html?readform&s=87594467E1C7C744802579FB004EF762
